Abstract

In this lecture, Laura González-Fierro will explore the multifaceted nature of her practice, offering insight into the studio’s environment and its role in analyzing and shaping the built environment. She will discuss how various elements—from technical skills and material experimentation to theoretical reflection, research, and collaboration—interact and build upon one another, shaping her creative process and the evolution of her practice. The talk will touch on key projects addressing the diverse challenges of contemporary design.

Laura González-Fierro

González-Fierro is an architect, curator, and educator based in New York City. In 2010, she founded FIERRO, a human and non-human-centric architecture and design studio with projects in New York, Miami, Mexico City, and São Paulo in the fields of architecture, urban planning, design, and curatorial work in multidisciplinary collaborations. She is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Columbia University GSAPP, where she teaches a studio on Accessibility for the Advanced Architectural Design and MArch programs. As a Visiting Critic at Cornell University, she teaches a studio called FARM + LAND, which explores the relationship, interdependency, and connection between the country and the city, the rural and the urban, the natural and the unnatural. The focus is to design the Farm of the Future, where all the different types of capital are considered —from the natural, to the human, the intellectual, the cultural, the economical and social capital entangled into a sustainable operation.
