Abstract

This lecture will explore how a project concept gets funded and implemented, tracing the development of a proposal to daylight the buried Harlem Creek over a decade. In the talk, she will unpack the evolving planning context for climate resilience in New York City, including the work of Climate Strong Communities, the city’s current initiative to design and fund resilience infrastructure in partnership with communities.

Justine Shapiro-Kline

Justine Shapiro-Kline is the Associate Director of Planning at ONE Architecture & Urbanism. Her practice prioritizes participatory design and integration of natural systems to support the development of equitable communities and resilient places. She brings a decade of experience working with communities, public agencies, and organizations on strategic initiatives, revitalization plans, and visioning efforts for equitable adaptation to climate change and its impact.
