Abstract

Again and Again explores patterns and cycles through multiple themes, including heritage, the environment, and belonging. Ami Maria Hernandez, Ella Anjali Kirlew, and Rania Amalia Shah (all B.F.A. ’27) work across different mediums and processes to create, question, and critique visual and historical repetitions. The artists consider their own experiences within broader systems of power and question how to navigate and disrupt cycles that often seem larger than life.

Biographies

Ella Anjali Kirlew

Ella Anjali Kirlew is an interdisciplinary artist working primarily with printmaking, sculpture, language, and research. Her process is often an exploration, a response, or a reaction to her research and lived experiences. Themes in Ella’s work are constantly growing but are rooted in resistance, ancestral memory and a decolonial mindset.

Rania Shah

Rania Shah is a textile and ceramic-based artist whose work explores the intersection of her South Asian, Queer, and American identities. She interweaves traditional South Asian textile techniques and motifs with images of her Queer life, illustrating a world where Queer, Brown girls can exist freely and honestly, and reminding herself of South Asia’s long Queer history. Through her practice, Rania hopes to create dialogue around a decolonial future, using her work to imagine authentic lives for herself and her communities.

Ami Maria Hernandez

Ami Maria Hernandez works across photography, drawing, and textile. Her work examines various landscapes and the organic and imposed systems that emerge.
