People

Profile pages are built to flex from a simple name and bio to a rich page with video, carousels, books, and related news and events.

In addition, People entries can be selected and displayed in People List, a block that can be inserted into any page. You can create an entry for every Faculty member, Staff member, and Emeritus / Retired faculty you want visible on the site.

Profile Overview

  • Every profile should have a photo attached to the Featured Image field. Use a crop with a 4:5 aspect ratio.
  • Under Profile Overview, add First Name and Last Name (for alphabetization), then use the optional Display Name for the preferred full name of the person.
  • People entries can take include job titles. The first title should be the main one (e.g. Assistant Professor). All job titles will be shown on the person’s profile page in the upper left, but only the first will be shown in People Lists and search results.
  • You can optionally add a CV (PDF attachment), Contact Information (including a personal website link), multiple Connect links for social media or other external sites, and multiple Affiliation links .
  • Add a Biography of 150 words or fewer — about 1 to 3 paragraphs.
  • For Research Areas, you have two methods: use the taxonomy pane in the sidebar to check any of the existing Research Areas; you can then add other areas via the repeater field (also named Research Areas) in the main column. These free-text items will appear below any from the taxonomy.
  • Finally, be sure to tick the appropriate Person Type (Faculty, Staff, or Emeritus & Retired Faculty)

Content Blocks

The rest of the profile is powered by a set of content blocks for showcasing research, books, classes, and other representations of work. Note that all blocks load by default in a recommended order except for Selected Publications (which must be added manually — place it near the top of the page, under Books, for consistency). Profiles need not use every block, and you can reorder the blocks to accommodate special cases you see fit.

Some highlights:

  • The Asset block contains options for a flexible asset like an Image or Video Embed as well as a Carousel (the Stack version is best for artwork, while the Ribbon version may be best for photographs or lab videos).
  • The Books block will use a larger layout for a single book and a scrollable carousel of smaller covers for multiple books. Keep the Byline information concise: often only the publisher and year are needed.
  • Featured Research consists of a freeform repeater field with a Title, Description, Image, and optional Link — this format works well well for projects from a Lab or other ongoing initiatives.
  • Related News and Events will show include a list of links powered by the tagging on the News or Event entries themselves. Use this placeholder block to position where those links will appear.
