The intention of this project is to design a new headquarters for the Municipal Arts Society (MAS) of New York at a location on the edge of the West Village. Careful attention was given to the mission of MAS, whose primary goal is to engage and serve the diverse collection of neighborhoods and communities that make up the five boroughs of the city. In referencing the rich historical, cultural, economic, and social conditions around the project's location, 1 Gansevoort Street, this new headquarters uses architecture as a mechanism for engaging MAS's (currently disconnected) relationship with the city.
