The project is located at Marcel Marble Quarries in the Sierra of the Southern Spanish province of Almeria. The quarries have been left untouched after years of extraction of marble blocks — earth — for human needs. Negotiating spatial territories between the landscape and the air, the Marble Center leads visitors and artists into a "slit" and down to the main hall that cantilevers over the steps of marble-scape. Abandoned marble blocks found on the site are replaced in the main space as structure and as homage. They were once earth, but disconnected by human. They are quietly sitting there to provoke the history of the quarries.
