Erik den Breejen
Erik den Breejen lives and practices in Brooklyn. He is currently working on his third solo exhibition at Freight and Volume gallery in New York, which is scheduled to open in May 2014. Other recent works include a mural commission outside of clothier Rag and Bone's Houston Street store; a solo booth at the inaugural UNTITLED art fair in Miami Beach in 2012; and a solo show titled Smile in New York City that ran from December 2011 to January 2012.
"My time at Cornell was crucial towards developing my work into maturity and solidifying the skills I needed to work independently as an artist," says den Breejen. "Carl Ostendarp was instrumental in my development, as we shared a conceptual and aesthetic understanding from the beginning and were able to take this connection far, having many rewarding critiques. I also gained a lot from the graduate seminar and the visiting artists and curators."
den Breejen received his B.F.A. in 1999 from California College of the Arts.
