The Grand Experiment is produced by HitPlay Productions, a Toronto-based independent production company. Nadine Pequeneza is the owner of HitPlay and the producer, director, and writer of the film.  The documentary was commissioned by TVO, Ontario's public broadcaster, and made with the participation of Knowledge Network, Canada Media Fund, Rogers Documentary Fund, OMDC Film Fund, Telefilm Theatrical Fund, the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit, and the Ontario Media Development Corporation Film and Television Tax Credit.

Abstract:

An unorthodox marriage between capitalism and charity, The Grand Experiment tracks a social innovation that promises to solve society's most intractable problems. Social impact bonds are making strange bedfellows — social workers and Wall Street bankers, the homeless and venture capitalists, conservative and liberal politicians. From the halls of power to society's struggling underclass, this film follows an unusual cast of characters as they confront the ethical questions at the heart of an international revolution using profit motivation to rectify social inequality.
