Associate Professor Jeffrey Chusid has been named interim chair of the Department of City and Regional Planning (CRP) for the spring 2017 semester. His appointment follows the recent loss of Professor Susan Christopherson, who was on leave for the fall 2016 semester and died on December 13.

With the announcement, Kent Kleinman, Gale and Ira Drukier Dean of AAP, acknowledged Christopherson's legacy and spirit and his appreciation of Chusid’s dedication to the department and willingness to serve on short notice. “Susan's death has shaken the department and the college, and there is no better person than Jeff to help lead CRP at this difficult moment,” said Kleinman in a note to faculty and staff. He also recognized former department chair and CRP professor Kieran Donaghy for his leadership as acting chair during the fall semester.

Chusid has been a member of the CRP faculty since 2005 and has ongoing research interests in a number of critical areas of historic preservation. His work encompasses conservation in the context of cultural exchange and conflict, development in modernist areas in India, historic materials, and sustainable development. Chusid is an architect and planner, as well as the author of articles and books related to preservation and urban design.
