AAP proudly participates in the Entrepreneurship@Cornell program. As one of many centers for innovative critical thinking and creative accomplishments at the university, AAP provides students, faculty, and staff with unique opportunities to harness their own entrepreneurial spirits and pursue endeavors that bring personal growth while giving back to the community — locally and globally.
Architects, Artists, and Planners as Entrepreneurs
Here are just a few examples of where entrepreneurship thrives at AAP:
- Susan Christopherson is J. Thomas Clark Professor of Entrepreneurship and Personal Enterprise in the Department of City and Regional Planning and is an economic geographer whose research includes both international and U.S.-policy-oriented projects.
- David Funk from the faculty of City and Regional Planning directs the outstanding Cornell Program in Real Estate.
- The Cornell University Solar Decathlon team is organized into several subteams and run entirely by students, with faculty members serving solely as advisors.
- Association is a student publication of AAP featuring the interconnection of AAP fields through student and faculty projects from all three departments.
- Placemaker is a new student-run magazine and media development team that has set out to chronicle the very best ideas shaping our built environment and communities.
- In response to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the Department of City and Regional Planning created the New Orleans Planning Initiative (NOPI), a collaboration between CRP and the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN).
- John Ahearn '73 recently came to campus and encouraged students to challenge themselves at the Art Alumni Career Forum.
- Three Cornell alumni—who led the 2005 Cornell Solar Decathlon Team—recently founded Zero Energy Design in order to “transform the green design market from environmental niche to mainstream.”
There are innumerable stories of entrepreneurship in the AAP community. If you know of one we should hear about, please
