And Now You Want Me to Be Creative?: Planning for Economic Development on a Regional Level

Department of City and Regional Planning Professional Planning Colloquium

Donna Fathke, a principal planner with the East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission, grew up in Chicago, one of the hotbeds of the growth and maturation of urban planning. Although initially trained in electrical engineering Fathke, returned to the University of Illinois to gain her masters degree in urban planning. Fathke does economic development work for the East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission. Her job involves working with state and county level economic developers; and with companies as large as Honda Manufacturing to as small as the mom and pop shop. She has experience with writing grants to the Economic Development Administration, the Department of Energy, Department of Defense, the Appalachian Regional Commission, and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration at the federal level, as well as with the Community Development Block Grant program at the state level. She also manages a multi-million dollar revolving loan fund program for small businesses. Fathke will speak about her experiences with the East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission.
