AAP Cornell in Rome Spring 2012 Lecture Series

Elia Zenghelis is an architect and educator based in Athens. He is a cofounder — with Rem Koolhaas, Zoe Zenghelis, and Madelon Vriesendorp — of OMA, where he was partner in charge of OMA London and later, OMA Athens. In 1987 Zenghelis partnered with architect Eleni Gigantes to form the office Gigantes Zenghelis Architects. In 1989 he was appointed Baukunst Professor at the Kunstakademie in Dusseldorf, retiring in 2002. He also taught at the Berlage Institute in the Netherlands (1993–2010), and in 2003 was appointed a member of its board. From 1997 onward he also taught in Switzerland as guest professor at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (1997–98) and ETH in Zurich (1998–2000), and as professor at the Accademia d'Architettura Mendrisio (2000–07). In 2009 he was appointed professor emeritus at the University of Thessaly at Volos in Greece, where he leads special graduate courses. He continues to teach master classes around the world. In 2000, Zenghelis received the Annie Spink Award for Excellence in Education from the Royal Institute of British Architects.
