Event Detail

"The White Pajamas" is a documentation of the life of a ghost in which multiple media work to sift through the staging of seven events, leading to a final sorrow or secret. Each medium is a condition for another. The speaker of the poem and the viewer exist in two different realms, and it is where they overlap that the quietly violent events become pounding. The pajamas represent the white burial shroud worn by the diseased in Eastern European Jewish tradition. In the work, this dressing also symbolizes a futile preventative measure: the pathetic attempt to avoid a premature death or reveal a regretful secret.
