Walter Isard (1919–2010), professor emeritus of economics and regional science, was one of the pioneers in the field of regional science. He authored several books including: Location and Space Economy: A General Theory Relating to Industrial Location; Market Areas, Land Use, Trade and Urban Structures; and Arms Races, Arms Control, and Conflict Analysis: Contributions from Peace Science and Peace Economics. His later research interests were conflict management and regional economics and integrated multi-region and world ecologic-economic models.
