Andrew Rumbach (Ph.D. ’11) is an assistant professor in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Hawaii–Manoa and an instructor at the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center. He holds a Ph.D. and a master’s degree in city and regional planning from Cornell University and a bachelor’s in political science from Reed College. His research examines the relationships between urbanization and environmental risk, with special focus on the vulnerability of poor and marginalized groups to natural hazards and global climate change. He is especially concerned with the role that planning plays in shaping geographies of risk and resilience in cities.
