M.R.P. 1996, Ph.D. 2002
U.N.-launched Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), Geneva, Switzerland
"Cornell is intellectually vibrant, in and out of the classroom," Savitri says. "For my concentration in international development, it was helpful to have faculty and students who had lived and worked around the world. I also got to interact with visiting heads of state and government, policy makers from U.N. agencies, and scholars in international planning.
"I had access to one of the best library systems in the world for my Ph.D. work on how development planning and trade liberalization policy are linked."
Planning appealed to Savitri as a career because it combined community engagement and economic equity. She enrolled at Cornell for both her degrees because of the quality of the faculty and the university’s strength in international studies.
