Brian Dunn

M.F.A. 2013

Personal Website

Brian's work deals with an objectification of the painted mark and its potential to assert an autonomous character through the allusive qualities of gesture, color, shape, and scale.

Brian has recently been involved in implying the act of painting through other means - painting through collage, painting through wood construction, painting through printed material - to point to a tension between the pictorial reality and our own physical reality, between authorial gesture and the distancing of the constructed object.

He is also exploring how painted gesture, color, carried through material, can operate in relation to specific environments; these sites being both real world representations in photographs and prints.
