"Paintings on the 48th Parallel,'' a show of work by Aberdeen, WA artist Erik Sandgren, opened March 27th at Karin Clarke Gallery, Eugene, Oregon. Paintings of Northwest rivers, mountains, and ocean are the subject of another exhibition titled “Mostly Coastal”, at the Capps Art Gallery at Saint Martin's University in Lacey, WA, through April. Sandgren is an instructor of art and humanities at Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen, WA. "Here in the Pacific Northwest, my subjects are so deeply familiar that they seem to allow me a unique kind of shorthand," says Sandgren of his work. His aim is to evoke respect for nature without making a political statement.
