The diverse artistic practices being explored in the intimate environment of the art department’s M.F.A. program were on full display during an exhibition in early May at Flux Factory, in Long Island City.While in the past, graduating M.F.A. students have shown their thesis work at AAP NYC in Manhattan, this year’s New York City show was expanded to include both the first year and graduating students. The larger scope provided students with the opportunity to work together to plan all aspects of the exhibition — from scouting a location, to designing and installing the exhibition space, to putting together a press plan, and organizing the opening reception.
The reception, on May 2, took place on an eventful Sunday in the up-and-coming arts district — both the Columbia M.F.A. show and the Sculpture Center held openings — which helped to generate an excellent crowd.
