This library extension in Sweden was a study in combining complex forms with architectural intent while working mainly with 3D digital modeling programs and digital fabrication.

Formally, the building is influenced by the relationship with the existing library, surrounding buildings, and variations in the city’s scale in order to engage the urban fabric. Drawing from precedents such as the Library of Babel, the Black Diamond Museum, and the existing Stockholm Public Library, the extension builds on the programmatic notion that the library is a physical manifestation of the individual’s infinite quest for knowledge. Procession through the library was choreographed to induce a sense of being overwhelmed; allowing one to become cognizant of the seemingly unending amounts of existing knowledge that seems impossible for one to attain.
