Architecture News Item

October 29, 2009

The Cornell University Department of Architecture invites applications for one or more visiting faculty term positions beginning in spring and fall 2010. The duration of these appointments will range from one semester to three years depending on the qualifications and interests of candidates as well as the department’s needs. The typical teaching load will be two courses per semester including design studio, required lecture courses, and/or advanced elective seminars.

Applicants should possess a strong teaching record, graduate and/or professional degrees in architecture or associated fields, evidence of significant research and creative work related to design and contemporary practice, and expertise in one or more of the following fields of investigation: architectural theory, urbanism, sustainability and environmental systems, digital media and emergent technologies.

Architecture at Cornell dates back to the founding of the institution; it is one of the oldest programs of its kind and has a long and distinguished tradition of scholarship and teaching. Degree programs in the department include the professional B.Arch., a candidacy-status professional M.Arch., a post-professional Ph.D. in the history of architecture and urban development, and an M.S. in computer graphics. New facilities and evolving degree programs reflect both a continuing commitment to excellence and an ongoing renewal of architectural education at Cornell. The department welcomes interest in developing greater interdisciplinary collaboration within the college and the university as a whole — with its wealth of humanistic, artistic, scientific, and technological resources. Beyond the institution, the department seeks to build upon its already extensive contacts and interactions both in the U.S. and internationally.

Women and other traditionally under-represented minorities in the field of architecture are encouraged to apply.
