In addition to architectural design, Vincent Mulcahy's research focuses on formal analysis, which he characterizes as the "unpacking" of form or "design in reverse.” Mulcahy is a fellow of the American Academy in Rome and a registered architect. In addition to teaching he maintains an active professional practice. Recent publication projects include ELEMENTALINSTRUMENTAL — one approach to foundational design teaching at Cornell — and Two More Ideal Villas Minus the Math — an argument for and an exercise in a comparative analysis of architectural form. He holds a master’s degree in architectural design from Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree from Cornell, majoring in intellectual history.
