Faculty Profile

Shohei Shigematsu is a partner at the Office for Metropolitan Architecture and is currently director of OMA*AMO PC in New York. He is currently in charge of the Milstein Hall project, a mixed-use high-rise building in Jersey City, NJ, and a residential tower with Creative Artist Agency (CAA) screening room on 23 East 22nd Street in Manhattan, amongst other projects. He oversees OMA’s operations in North America from New York.

Mr. Shigematsu was project leader of winning design competitions such as the CCTV headquarters in Beijing, the Koning Julianaplein mixed-use building in The Hague, and the Shenzhen Stock Exchange Tower. He has been a driving force in conceptual projects such as the Universal Headquarters in Los Angeles, the Whitney Museum Extension in New York, the Tokyo vertical campus, the China National Museum, and Prada Epicenters for Shanghai and London.

Mr. Shigematsu was born in Fukuoka, Japan in 1973. He graduated in 1995 from the Department of Architecture at Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan. After studying at the Berlage Institute Amsterdam (postgraduate laboratory), he joined the Office for Metropolitan Architecture in 1998.

Mr. Shigematsu became associate of OMA Rotterdam in 2004 and in 2006 became director of OMA*AMO New York.

Shohei Shigematsu designed the traveling exhibition "Waist Down," featuring skirts designed by Miuccia Prada. The exhibition was launched in Tokyo, and has since appeared in Shanghai, New York, and Los Angeles. He is a visiting critic for Cornell University, College of Architecture, Art, and Planning and for Kyoto University of Art and Design.
