Department of Architecture Spring 2011 Lecture Series
Sylvia Lavin, professor and director of critical studies and M.A./Ph.D. programs at UCLA, is known for her scholarship and her criticism of contemporary architecture and design. She has been a visiting professor at Harvard University, Princeton University, Columbia University, and elsewhere and has twice been appointed a Getty Research Institute Scholar. She writes for an international spectrum of journals and is completing her next books, the Flash in the Pan and Other Forms of Architectural Contemporaneity and Kissing Architecture. Lavin is also a curator of experimental work in architecture and design; recent and upcoming exhibitions include Oil and Architecture in the Persian Gulf, Sharjah University; Take Note, exploring the relationship between architecture and writing, at the Canadian Center for Architecture, Montreal; and a new project based series of exhibits on architecture and design The Hammer Museum, Los Angeles.
