John Hartell Gallery
In 1982 the college honored long-time professor of architecture and art, John Hartell, by naming the gallery in Sibley Dome after him for his extraordinary contributions to both disciplines at Cornell. Hartell joined the architecture faculty in 1930 and the art faculty in 1940, and served as chair of the art department from 1940 until 1959.
Milstein Hall Gallery
Milstein Hall Gallery is located in the lower level of Milstein Hall, which opened in the fall of 2011. The gallery is situated next to the sunken garden, taking advantage of natural light from garden which is along the north façade. The gallery floor is lowered 15 inches to increase the ceiling height within the exhibition space.
Olive Tjaden Gallery
In 1983, after undergoing extensive renovation, the college’s art building was renamed the Olive Tjaden Hall in honor of Olive Tjaden Van Sickle '25, a pioneering female architect and graduate of the college. In addition, the newly-created gallery in Tjaden was named the Olive Tjaden Gallery. Van Sickle, who died in March 1997, financed the renovation of Tjaden and the creation of the gallery.
This alternative exhibition space, located in 102 Tjaden Hall, was converted into an experimental exhibition gallery space.
There are eight LCD screens located throughout the college — one in Rand Hall, two in East Sibley, two in Hartell Gallery, one in West Sibley, one in Tjaden Hall, and one in the Foundry — for digital exhibitions.
